Waiting, watching, things are looking good…
Well now it’s just a waiting game, the weather is feeling more and more like summer each day, the marinas are filling up as more boats go into the water for the season. We are checking and watching everything from SST to Chlorophyll to Altimetry just looking for any piece of water, eddy or filament that could potentially bring some yellowfin and big eye into our canyons, could be any day now! The full moon is tonight, the striper bite has been insane both in the surf and in the inlet and bays, there is bait, red drum and black drum, bluefish, flounder and of course striper, and we’ve also heard several reports of bluefin sightings pretty close to the beach, I wouldn’t doubt it but I don’t have solid enough evidence to say for certain. There is definitely a nice upwelling of water down around VA Beach and the tunnel, so ill be curious to see if any of those guys venture out in search of bluefin, or if they are to distracted by the cobia, red drum and sheepshead. I will say it’s great to see all this life pushing north up the coast, and I can’t help but think the tuna have got to be close behind them! Also worth mentioning there’s been a hell of a tilefish bite in the Wilmington, with some huge fish being caught between 30-50lbs! Good luck, tight lines, and stay bent!
