Some wahoo caught, marlin bite still decent….

Some wahoo caught, Marlin bite still decent…

The weather hasn’t been to cooperative this fall, September is hurricane season so all things considered were doing okay, but a lot of windy rough days have kept a lot of boats from fishing. When we have got the flat calm days like Thursday 9.18 and Friday 9.19 and other days last week its been Marlin, Mahi and tilefish no tuna really, except for a stray yellowfin here and there in the Baltimore and Washington but no significant numbers. A few of them were pretty big, one weighing 90lbs but only a handful were actually caught. The boats that can make the run north, or fish out of Jersey and NY are still continuing to have phenomenal fishing from the Hudson to Atlantis yeallowfin’s, long fins, and big eyes, as many as you want to catch is the way they make it sound, and the pictures match the story! The wahoo are definitely here, we only saw a handful caught in the last few days but we know they’re around, I think they are in shallower than people realize and you just have to cover some ground to find them, and then run the lures over their heads, sea witches with wire leader and trolling a little faster than usual seems to be a productive way to catch them, you got a good shot anywhere from, the parking lot to the hambone to sausages or any of the lumps in that 20 to 30fm range. We hooked that big one we lost at the chicken bone and caught another one earlier in the summer in that same general area and depth, they should hopefully stick around for another few weeks depending what mother nature does. We stopped at a random wreck near site 11 on our way in to try for flounder or sea bass, and we pulled up, marked structure with fish on it, dropped down UVT tuna jigs and got tight instantly! There were some stud sea bass stacked up, 16-18” on average, some as big as 22” and all knot heads! Was pretty cool, I don’t sea bass fish often but usually you get a lot of throw backs or ones that are so close you have to measure, to me it was rare to catch em like that and almost every one be so big we didn’t even have to measure, was pretty awesome. Lets all hope some tunas push south towards us, as always we’ll be watching and keeping an eye, and fishing, scouting, and trying when the weather permits, next time we might specifically try and target strictly wahoo, we’ll see. Our new app will be launching as soon as next week and when it does you all will be first to know, we can’t wait to show you all! We don’t mean to be stringing you all along, remember we aren’t tech guru’s were anglers lol we just want it to be absolutely perfect or the best version we can possibly put out for you all, and making sure everything functions seamlessly, no glitches or bugs, and we will still be “testing” it for a while, but each function will work and work flawlessly, or that’s our goal! Its been a lot of hard work behind the scenes, a lot of speed bumps and pot holes and dead ends, but we’ve made it through each obstacle and now its finally almost done! In the mean time you can see on our current app where the commercial boats have been fishing, but we have been talking to them and there’s some swordfish out there and they have caught a big eye or yellowfin here and there, but they long line with 1000s of hooks that they leave out for hours, so if they only get a handful of fish, then they most likely just aren’t really around right now, in my opinion. Tight lines y’all stay bent, those tunas gotta migrate eventually!

Tuna bite continues for Jersey and NY, rough conditions and NE winds locally….

Tuna bite continues for Jersey and the north……

Well if your on any social media you’ve probably seen some of the insane tuna fishing going on in the north east, there was some beautiful water and an eddy that moved from west Atlantis all the way down through the Hudson and south, and lots of boats took advantage. There was some crazy big eye bites happening, boats catching 6 to 12 fish in the 200-300lb class, just crazy fishing! We also saw some nice 100-150lb Allison or sickle yellowfins mixed in with some of the boats catching limits of yellowfin, some trolling some jigging and popping, but all catching. Then there was also a couple boats recently in the last 3-5 days who got on a chunk bite inshore south west of the Hudson and inshore of Tom’s, with lots of nice sized yellowfin. We are watching the water and hoping those fish continue to push south down the line into our range or a reasonable range for Ocean City, Chincoteague and Indian River. The water has been pretty rough the last couple weeks too, we haven’t had to many flat calm beautiful days, and it doesn’t look like were gonna get one anytime soon, but those yellowfin could be somewhere between the tea cup, the elephant trunk and the lobster claw, there is beautiful blue blended water pushed in there and its still 71-73 degrees, seems perfect to me. Luckily we have our app, and those of you who are members have access to version 1.0 and can see where the hot spots are on the map, and also see where the long line boats and trawlers have been working and you can tell most of the life has still been pretty far north, but they are working south so were staying optimistic! Another thing that really has us excited is this new updated ABFI 2.0! We’ve been working on this app so hard behind the scenes, it’s part of why we haven’t been fishing quite as much or going live as much (also no tuna, rough conditions, tourneys over etc.) because Jeff and I have been laser focused on getting this app finished and out to our members to use, and try, and test, it’s gonna be insane. Everything we wanted 1.0 to be and more, from the live member vessel tracker, to the AI powered hot spot prediction map, but this time not only does it look 100 times better, it’s easier to use and it works on phones, tablets, laptops, computers, anything with google chrome or safari etc. if you can get to alwaysbent.com it’ll work! The live member map will be a give and get thing, if you want to use the map and be able to see all the other members and where they’re fishing you’ll have to share your location! We will have “tournament mode” which is for when you choose not to share your location and you will only see your own boat on the map, no one will be able to see you and you also can’t see other members. We feel this is a fair way for everyone to network and we also have a live chat on the map where you can talk to other boats who are online! Each boat will have their boat name and will be color coordinated based off which inlet they leave out of, it is going to be awesome! The SST and Chlorophyl will both still be there as well, but the other big thing is the AI powered hot spot prediction map, the AI is getting better by the day and we’ve also figured out how to teach it more and give it more data points and now it will even highlight temperature breaks, color changes and other “productive edges” to fish! It’s gonna be an absolute game changer were so pumped and can’t wait to share it with you all!! Truly can’t believe the things we are able to do now a days with technology and the internet! Tight lines and stay bent!! Bye for now…. RIP Flip Pallot

Another day of epic marlin fishing!

Another day of epic marlin fishing

We saw boats have another epic day of marlin fishing with several boats in the double digit numbers! It is awesome to see, but we are really hoping and praying some of these big eyes and yellowfin slide down into our canyons and lumps for one last fall tuna bite, or maybe NOAA will open the bluefin fishery back up, we shall see. It is gonna blow this afternoon into the next few days, some boats may be able to get out Saturday or Sunday, but for us we’ll probably be waiting until next week, so hopefully by then there’s some tuna around! In the mean time we are working hard behind the scenes on finishing up the new updated version of our app, it will be ready to launch and show you all any day now! We just want to make sure everything is functioning properly and working exactly how we want it too, but it is going to be a total game changer, makes our old app look like something from the 2000s hahaha it’s gonna be awesome and we can't wait to show y’all! We’ll also be doing more and more inshore fishing as well once the water temps cool off and those big striper start showing up, maybe hunt down some speckled trout or reds, there’s been a good sheepshead bite recently too! Always fish to chase in OC!! Tight lines and stay bent!!

Epic white marlin bite continues….

World class marlin bite continues in Mid Atlantic!

Beautiful weather and conditions has allowed boats to continue to capitalize on the world class marlin fishing that has been going on here in Ocean City. We saw as high as 33 releases from Billfisher and Sea Hag had 30 something as well, might be the 2025 record so far this summer! Many other boats with 10-20 releases Reel Chaos, Wrecker, Bar South, Southern C’s to name a few, but lots of boats had some great fishing! We should continue to see good billfishing at least for the next week or two maybe a little longer depending what this weather does. We are searching for tunas, not much going on as far as yellowfins, we have heard a few bluefins caught trolling and released as the season is closed currently, and we’ve been seeing the unreal big eye bite up north in the Hudson. We are really hoping those fish push down the 100 line and come visit our canyons, we’ll be keeping an eye and continuing to fish and hunt for them they could show up any day. Wahoo are also around, now is a great time to wahoo fish on the 20-30fm lumps, of course mahi are around too! Good luck and tight lines, stay bent y’all! Marlin bite out of this world!!

Tons of boats catching white and blue marlin over the last two days as well as plenty of mahi! Todays action sounded like it was all around the Poormans and Dumpsite, however yesterday some boats also fished Norfolk and Washington as well. There is still some nice blue water pushed inshore between the hot dog and the tea cup that is def worth trolling for wahoo or a yellowfin, the yellowfin should show up on the lumps any day now, they gotta be around but they certainly aren’t thick at the moment by any means. Mahi your best bet is to find something floating, whether its a pot or bouy, or if you're really lucky and find a pallet or piece of plywood or a big plastic barrel etc. they’re usually stacked up pretty good! Some great weather days ahead so get out and fish while you can! Good luck, tight lines, and stay bent!!

Also for any members or if you’re thinking about becoming a member now is a great time to do it, still only $99 a month, and you get instant access to version 1.0 of our offshore intelligence app, and catch reports, but you will also be the first to see and try our new improved 2.0 version which is gonna be even better! We’ll have both commercial vessels and our members real time ais location data, more detailed sst, chlorophyl, and bathymetry and of course our AI powered algorithm that we’ve dialed in even better than before to predict the most likely areas tuna, marlin and other pelagic fish will be!!

Still rough, hoping it shakes things up a bit…

We saw some wahoo, mahi, tuna and marlin all weighed in for MA 500 over the last few days, but zero boats fished today and today is the worst of what we will see from hurricane or tropical system Erin. Not much to report on unfortunately or not much has changed still looking at a far run north or south to any kind of promising life or fishing, but we are really hoping this storm system and high wind really shakes things up and pushes some life and fish back into our local Mid Atlantic waters here, boats in Jersey and NY will have to take.a break from all the insane action they have had as Erin will be approaching them next, and boats to the south in VA will get a chance to get back out there soon and see if anything has changed. Good luck and tight lines! Stay Bent!

Rough conditions for MA500, hopefully it will shake things up….

Well another storm system and another drought tournament week for the boats fishing the Mid Atlantic 500. Fishing has been a grind, with boats settling for mahi and tile fish, or making the long run for Marlin or a chance at tuna, but our local lumps and canyons (Norfolk to Wilmington) have just seemed to be in somewhat of a dead zone. There has been some billfish action deep in the Washington and Norfolk, and then most other boats are running pretty far to the north towards the Hudson and Tom’s for billfish and also tuna. We are really hoping this storm system shakes things up and pushes some life into the Maryland Delaware and Virginia area to end summer with a bang! We will see how the water looks after the storm, tight lines and stay bent!! Also we are working hard on improving our app and our new updated version will be coming out very soon!! Those of you who are already members will automatically gain access to the new app and will be grandfathered in moving forward!! The new app has everything the current one does and more, it is gonna be awesome, highlighting temp breaks and color changes, live location data of other boats recreational and commercial, members and users can submit reports viewable by other members in real time, gonna be an awesome network to be a part of and tool for offshore anglers!

WMO comes to an end, fishing picking back up??

Fishing picking back up?

Well white marlin open has come and gone, and we are now in the tail end of summer. Was a tough tournament week between rough conditions and tough tuna fishing for most boats. We did get our bluefin bite on our final day Sunday and unfortunately it spit the hook in the first 60-90 seconds just never came all the way tight or hook wasn’t in good, it happens that’s fishing! A few other boats caught bluefin as well on Sunday and all caught relatively close to the beach, or inside 30 fathoms some as close as 10-15 fathoms! Over the weekend to the north seemed to be the hot spots Masseys, 19fm lump, elephant trunk, cigar, sea isle ridge, etc. Marlin bite continues to be decent in 500-1000fms of Norfolk and Washington. Mahi seem to be plentiful as well both inshore and in the deep! Let’s see how the ladies do this weekend with the Poor Girls Open! We’re also hearing whispers of yellowfins showing back up down south of the Norfolk…. tight lines and stay bent!

Crappy day 3 conditions, 95lb yellowfin weighed!

Well someone found a 95lb yellowfin that is currently sitting in first for the tuna division! Boats are still plucking at the marlin unfortunately there is a lot of smaller white marlin around, so boats are having a tough time finding marlin big enough to qualify or even kill! Tuna still seems like a shot in the dark for us down here, we are so jealous seeing all the action the guys up north in Jersey and New York are having!! Let’s hope as we take our lay days the next 2-3 days that by Saturday/Sunday some tuna have pushed in and we can hook a big one!! Tight lines and stay bent y’all!! (Also Jeff and crew went to Norfolk yesterday, missed a couple marlin bites, no tuna to be found)

900lb Blue Marlin weighed on day one, like we thought slow fishing…

Sure plenty of boats caught and released White Marlins and Blue Marlins, but there was only one or two weighed in, and only a handful of tuna as well. We knew it would be a tough WMO between weather conditions and then the current water conditions, you’ve still got that blue water deep holding marlin and mahi from Washington to Baltimore, but if your like us and after a big tuna it still feels like a shot in the dark, maybe the Norfolk? Maybe the Wilmington or Spencer? Those would be our choices, and certainly look like the best odds of catching, but we have no solid catch reports so at this point it’s still a shot in the dark in our opinion! Team Bad Habit is out there fishing today for day 2 so let’s hope we see you guys tonight live on YouTube from the scales!!! Tight lines and stay bent!

Looking rough for WMO, gonna choose our days wisely…

Rough week ahead for WMO…

Well boats are registered and ready for Day 1 of WMO tomorrow! Gonna be a rough week ahead offshore, conditions will not be to friendly but seems like almost every year it always tends to be rough for WMO just comes with it, and not much has changed in the way of fishing, Marlin are def around as well as mahi, some boats could have a chance at a wahoo, and of course boats will be trying for tuna, but I think tuna will be the toughest. You can pick a canyon and hunt for a big eye, I personally think Wilmington and Norfolk still look like the play but Washington could be holding life too, Marlin have been in poormans and Baltimore, and yeah not much has changed as far as water wise and chlorophyll so we’ll see how it goes this week and what comes to the scales, could be anybody’s tournament! 282 boats and over 7 million in prize money, should be an interesting week! We’ll be fishing, and Taylor will be around filming as well on land and on the skiff! I’m sure we’ll be going live as well on YouTube throughout the week updating you all! Tight lines and stay bent!

Yellowfins tricky to locate, marlin bite consistent…

These yellowfin have been tricky to find! We saw a few boats having some luck down to the south just inside the 100 line, and then a few boats north of the Spencer having some luck in the blue water on the 100 line but nothing spectacular, or boats getting their limits, still seems like they have better fishing to the north right now. We have some water leaking inshore from the south down south of the Norfolk, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the VA Beach boats and Chincoteague boats are running down south of the Norfolk and finding them. The marlin bite seems to have been decent too at both the Washington and the Wilmington in that blue water, which has pushed in a little closer, some boats finding them inside 500fms. Mahi are defiantly around as well, haven’t seen a whole lot of them inshore but once you're out near the 100 line in that blue water they are def around! Lot’s of flying fish too, we’ll see what this water has in store for us as we get ready for the annual White Marlin Open next week! Gonna be an interesting one if the fishing stays the way it’s been, could be anybody’s tournament to win!! Tight lines and stay bent!!

Full Service takes home the Big Fish Classic, marlin around what about tuna?

We are beyond stoked our boys on the Full Service got the job done, they got jumped by 5 tuna that size Friday evening in the Wilmington canyon, and I believe only landed one or two of them, they were all 300lb class big eyes, they got a couple yellowfins as well. Overall the tuna fishing has still been slow and scattered, a small boat a 21’ Parker named Teaser ended up taking 2nd place with a big bluefin they caught, my guess is somewhere like masseys or the elephant trunk, but I cannot confirm that! The blue water is pushed in close, we saw flying fish at the hot dog, it looked great inshore, but we didn’t mark any tuna or see signs of life like whales or porpoises or even birds. We are hearing a decent amount of boats catching marlin out deep in the blue water in Washington and Poormans, Wilmington as well. Those big eyes must be cruising up and down the 100 line or something, we’ll see as we have some decent weather this week and boats can get out and fish, someone is gonna find some tuna stacked up somewhere waiting to chew!! Any day now!! In the mean time for members, use our app to your advantage, use our new reporting system for members check for new reports, post reports yourself whether its anonymous or if you can put your boat name in there! Tuna bite spotty, marlin deep in blue water…

Well were hearing whispers of a big eye bite, but overall the tuna fishing has been very slow and spotty, few boats picking off single yellowfins in the canyons while marlin fishing, and then the inshore bites to the far south below the Norfolk seem to have slowed up, they may still be biting up north for Jersey boats inshore. As for Ocean City we are right in the middle of the Huk Big Fish so boats are not letting up much information, but our buddies on the Full Service will be weighing in some big eyes and yellowfins today, so we’ll update our members this evening on where they were caught and what they bit! Jeff and the crew have been fishing the last couple days out running around and scouting and can confirm the yellowfins are not at the hot dog or tea cup as of Friday…..

Like we’ve said north and south…

Basically between our app and if you use any services for imagery, im gonna post one above, you can see the blue water is here and all the water is hot 80 degrees or hotter in most areas, so now what? That’s where our app is useful, we can see where commercial boats are fishing, other members are fishing, and then also altimetry and salinity too, it always seems to line up with where the fish are! Like we’ve been saying you best options are basically going as far north as you can make it with your fuel amount, pick a canyon or inshore lump some kind of structure and work it, when its all blue we tend to try and fish near the altimetry lines, I know those fish feel that pressure and it effects them and we’ve tracked it and seen it, but with that being said boats and members are catching them both in the deep blue water and inshore in 30-60fms in green water, or greenish blend I should say cause that blue water is slowly pushing in closer and closer especially to the north! Now to.the south you’ve got the bite that was happening south of the Norfolk on the lumps in 30-60fms south west of the Norfolk, but now there is a good salinity push into the Norfolk and an altimetry line running through the Washington, we haven’t heard any crazy reports from down there, besides some marlin deep in the Washington and mahi, but I wouldn’t be surprised if tuna show up in the Norfolk or Washington, or even inshore on some of our lumps here very soon! Our app and membership really is the best thing for times like this, the altimetry and chlorophyl and stuff def helps, but fresh catch reports from members and seeing where the commercial fleets are fishing and our algorithm predicting the hot spots, its the next best advantage or tool when all the water is blue and hot, intel, Always Bent Intel. Tuna to the north and south, what now?

Well as I’m sure almost everyone knows by now, the yellowfin bite down south of the Norfolk has been pretty good, it was a zoo out there on Saturday with lots of boats down there, quite a few caught, but all that pressure never helps, boats yesterday in that same area had a much slower day than boats on Saturday but they still caught. We also saw our buddies on the Fish-Lik got a nice wahoo down there! Then up to the north there is a bite as well Between the Spencer and Tom’s, we had a member who caught 4 yellows in the Lindenkohl, and then pushed north and got a bluefin in the Carteret, and continued north into Tom’s where they hooked a White Marlin! So it’s decent to the south, decent to the north, but not much in-between, some mahi and a marlin bite here and there in the poormans and Washington. Can’t believe there isn’t more life in that blue water in the Baltimore, then the Wilmington has been great for tile fish if anyone cares about that. One interesting observation we made is the yellowfin to the south seem to be in shallower inside the 100 line in the green water as shallow as 30fms, where as the yellows caught in the Lindenkohl and to the north have been outside the 100 line in deeper blue water, thought that was interesting, we heard the Linde looked great yesterday had birds and whales, probably worth a shot if your thinking of going tomorrow and can’t get to the bite to the south. Tight lines y’all Stay bent!!

Rough yesterday, and rough again today, slow fishing…

Rough conditions, and slower fishing…

Man was it rough yesterday!! We are hearing today it’s still a little sporty out there! Yesterday was absolute washing machine out there with big short period swell, we ended up going straight east to hot dog and then Baltimore and only picked off one mahi, it was just to rough for us to make the trek down to Norfolk, or we didn’t wanna put our bodies or the boat through that beating LOL Unfortunately the fishing seems to have slowed up quite a bit, few boats are still getting a few yellowfins way down to the south around the Norfolk, and a few boats picking at Marlin deep in the Poormans but overall the fishing slowed down compared to what we had, hopefully we get a good piece of water or something to bring another mass of life and fish through our canyons before White Marlin Open! The mahi are def around, we also saw a big 75lb wahoo caught yesterday, and heard whispers of a possible big eye caught in the Wilmy but haven’t seen pics or gotten enough intel to confirm yet. If you can make the run to the south that’s probably best bet for yellowfin, inshore lumps should get ready and turn on any day now, we’ve been checking them and haven’t seen to much yet, but its about that time! Tight lines y’all and stay bent!!

Marlin fishing good early, tunas to the south…

Man we could be in for some great Marlin and bill fishing this summer! Jeff headed out this afternoon in search of a Blue Marlin as well as to scout for some more tunas, so we’ll see how he does! In the meantime we are getting reports of boats still catching yellowfins down south of the Norfolk and just inside the 100 line around the Norfolk, some boats picking at a few here and there in Wilmington and Spencer as well as Washington, but it’s mostly billfish to the north in the blue water. Let’s see if this wind and weather mixes things up at all or maybe a nice piece of fresh water will slide in with some new life for us! To the north is looking really good for all you Jersey and NY guys, I can only imagine it’s on fire!! Tight lines and sty bent!!

Tuna Tournament comes to an end, yellowfins moving inshore?

Tuna Tournament comes to an end, yellowfin pushing inshore?

Well the 2025 Tuna Tournament has come to an end, and just as we thought the tuna bite was very sporadic and they were very spread out. Boats caught a decent amount of yellowfin, but was hard to find big heavy tournament winning fish, I believe we saw one bluefin and two big eyes the entire tournament, and only a handful of yellowfins over 60lbs, we did finally see a nice wahoo get that awesome payout, as well as a good size bull mahi for that division, and then tons of billfish releases, seemed like everyone raised, hooked, or released a white or blue marlin! Good sign for the billfish guys! Now the Jimmy Johnson quest for the ring is coming up so we’ll see how that goes! Fishing wise in my opinion the bio mass is spread out to the north at this point, there’s def some big eyes in the Wilmington and Spencer, probably the Baltimore and Washington too, boats just had trouble getting them to come up and eat, they were all down deep from what we heard, and what Jeff saw as well. The yellowfins we had stacked up in the Poormans area spread out up and down the line and some moved north, however there is another mass of them pushing in from the south, we’ve got good reports of boats out of VA beach doing well south of the Norfolk, and even some Chincoteague and Ocean City boats also doing well between south of the Norfolk and South of the Washington. We also have got reports of some yellowfin finally starting to show up in a little shallower water, pushing into some of the southern most lumps in 30-60 fathoms, down south west of the Norfolk like the 21fm and 22fm fingers, Wayne’s world, and even to the north west spots like the Hook or the Rock Pile are worth starting to scout and troll, even if you don’t find yellowfin you could find wahoo or mahi! Summer fishing is in full swing, let’s see what the water and weather does, and then we’ll see what we think these fish are gonna do! Tight lines and stay bent y’all!!

Day 2 of the OC Tuna Tourney, getting better reports this am…

Day 2 of OC Tuna Tourney….

Well yesterday was an interesting first day, lots of boats catching marlin, and only a handful with tuna! Mostly yellowfins, and one nice bluefin that is currently in the lead. Most boats went north yesterday in search of blue water, and some boats did catch however I would bet today boats are trying other areas and moving south towards poormans or Washington maybe even the Norfolk, I don’t know where they’re fishing but the boat Sushi already has 6 yellowfins in the box this am!! Jeff and crew got 2 mahi and raised 2 whites yesterday, but no love from the tunas, they’re gonna fish their last day tomorrow and get some rest today. For those of you not in the tournament, like we’ve been saying you got a shot in almost any canyon right now, heard Wilmington was slow, I’d just avoid the tourney fleet and hit Poormans or Baltimore, you’ve got as good a shot there as anywhere especially if its not to crowded. Also could be worth poking inside the 100 line and scoping out the meat department and other lumps, could be mahi, wahoo, or even a stray yellowfin in there! Tight lines and stay bent!! We’ll be live again later this evening covering the weigh ins!
