Day 1 of OC Tuna Tourney under way!
Day 1 of the Tuna tournament is under way here in Ocean City MD, with over 100 boats competing for over a million dollars!! We will be covering the tournament all weekend on our social media pages, as well as live each night between 4-7pm covering the boats coming in, and changes made to the leaderboard, as well as where we are hearing fish being caught! The truth and reality of the matter is we are having a season that is abnormal, it is much better than last year, however with no real Eddys or perfect pieces of water, these fish seem to be spread out all up and down the 100 line from the Norfolk all the way up to the Spencer and everywhere in between, including even further north! This is anybody’s tournament this year, but obv we are rooting for our crew on the Bad Habit!! Good luck, tight lines, and stay bent!!
Nasty weather inbound, could shake things up…
Well we’ve got some crappy weather inbound which should have most boats at the docks over the next few days, we’ll be keeping a close eye on our app to see what if any commercial boats are out fishing and where they set their gear, we have a good idea of where they’ll be but it’s always interesting to see especially when the conditions are nautical! Hopefully the storm system coming up the coast will shake things up in a good way, the yellowfins should be pushing closer in on some of the lumps any day now, maybe spots like the tea cup or elephant trunk could have fish in the next few weeks even the meat department. For now we are stoked with the fishing we’ve had so far and excited to see what’s in store for the rest of this summer with tournaments right around the corner! Tuna tourney is this weekend! We may get a little quieter leading up to the tournament however you have access to the app and can use it no matter what! Chances are I’ll still pop on and do a daily recap for you members though, just understand we are competing and do want to win just like everyone else so we may be less vocal around tournaments. Thanks for all the support tight lines and stay bent!
Make a plan, and stick to it, the fish are here….
Make a plan and stick to it! The fish are here!
We’ve gotten so many reports from all different areas over the last few days, a lot of boats doing well north of the Washington, then some boats a little further north in south poormans and inside poormans catching tuna, then another group of boats in the Baltimore and up between the Baltimore and Wilmington. Use the data, whether its our app and where the hot spots and commercial fishing activity is, or SST and Chlorophyll shots, pick an area and work it, communicate with buddies and other members while on the water, it seems like almost every one has been catching which is awesome, and everyone seems to be on their own fish in their own little areas! The boats who are where the crowds are actually seem to be struggling a little more, or it is more hit or miss, if your alone or with 2-3 other boats in the Baltimore and go 3 for 4 or 4 for 5 there’s nothing wrong with that! Yes some boats are getting limits further south but there’s also boats down there getting skunked or catching 1 or 2 tuna, so you have to pick you battles, make a plan and stick to it! Work the structure, find the life, find the fish! Jeff went exploring inshore yesterday around the 12 and inshore of Masseys and saw some cobia and also caught that barracuda while trolling!! Some crazy life around this summer could be some wild fishing!! Tight lines and stay bent!
Seems the tuna are spread out all over the place!
Tuna seem to be spread out up and down the line…
So between yesterday and today, I have gotten tons of reports but I will say they are extremely mixed reports, yesterday we had some boats catching their limit in the Washington, as well as a coupe boats who also caught further north in the Poormans. We had another boat go 4 for 5 in the Wilmington, then also had a couple reports of it being slow in those same canyons Wilm and Poormans. Then this morning our first report came from member Mike B who went 3 for 3 this am deep in the Baltimore trolling north towards the Wilmington, then we also had member Jake H who picked off a single around 830 in 3-400 fathoms between the Washington and Poormans. We have one of our Jersey members who is also catching them up in the Lindenkohl however sharks have been a problem for them today, tax man is taxing! My theory is between all the boats and pressure on the fish, and no real consistent piece of water for them to stack up in, they’ve spread out all up and down from the Washington to the Lindenkohl and everywhere in-between. You have a shot of catching at almost any canyon, however based off the current sat shots I still think the south poormans area looks great, or up between the Baltimore and Wilmington, we have good reports from both areas. Tight lines and stay bent!
4/5 on yellowfins and a mahi, mixed reports….
4/5 on yellowfins and a mahi, getting mixed reports…
Sorry we didn’t post a report earlier guys! Happy 4th of July! As some of you may have been hearing we are getting a mix of reports, from as far south as the Washington to as far north as the Wilmington, just like we said on our live stream Wednesday night, you could go to just about any canyon right now and have a shot! One of our members Brandon F. was one of the first messages we got yesterday am from a member and he got his in the South Baltimore! However the rest of his day was pretty slow, we also had another member go 1-2 on yellowfin in the Baltimore. Then we had reports from our member James running our of Cape May that he went 4 for 5 on yellowfins up in the Wilmington, as well as a couple other boats that got them up there! As for us, it was a gametime decision, if it was to rough to go south we were headed north, but we got out of the inlet and pointed south, and the ride was smooth, so Jeff went to the Washington in hopes of avoiding crowds, and off a gut feeling he had, last year around this same time we had a similar predicament and everyone went north but Jeff went south and got a big eye and 4 yellowfins, so he went with his gut feeling and luckily it paid off for us! However we have had that backfire before too, where members tore em up and we got skunked, point is we do our best to give you guys our thoughts and where we think you’ll have the best odds of catching fish, and sometimes you gotta make those last minute game time decisions, and sometimes they pay off other times they cost ya! At the end of the day no matter how much technology we have and reports and satellites and sonar etc. it is still fishing for wild amazing creatures that we will continue to learn about and be fascinated by! Enjoy the 4th, I’ll do my best to pop on later and give you guys sn update from today, Jeff is out again this morning, I’m guessing in that same area north of the Washington. Tight Lines and Stay Bent!! (BE SAFE ON THE WATER FOR THE HOLIDAY!!! REMEMBER ANYONE CAN BUY A BOAT EVEN DUMBASSES!!) LOL
Tomorrow looking good, Baltimore or Wilmington….
Tomorrow looking good….
We are keeping a close eye on our app, as well as some other resources we use to see if we notice any significant changes in the water, but so far it still looks like that pocket of 72-74 degree water is still holding from north poormans up through the Wilmington where it meets with the blue water up in the Spencer and Linde. We’re debating between the Baltimore and the Wilmington, we’d really like to catch a big eye but yellowfins will be fine too, there’s been some billfish in the mix as well so that would make things interesting! I will try to post another update later tonight when we have all the days shots and a better idea of where we’re thinking of fishing, also tune in tonight to the live stream at 7-8pm! We have a new reporting system some of you may have noticed an extra button you can click once your logged in, that is going to be how you guys our members can share reports, catches, trip summary’s, anything you want to share with other members, and only members can see! Jeff and I will also start posting reports on there as well, but will be awesome to have a place for members to share reports with each other! Tight Lines and Stay Bent!
Water is on the move, Poorman’s to Wilmington in play….
Water is on the move..
I’ve put together a slide with multiple sat shots of both chlorophyll and SST so you guys can see how and where that water is moving. It looks to me like the water is moving north up the 100 line the opposite of what it normally does, this could be an illusion however it appears the water that was in the poormans slid up through the Baltimore and is now moving towards the Wilmington, there’s also some water that was deep to the east that pushed into the Spencer and Linde like we said yesterday, and even some blue water still down in the poorman’s as well. I also included an SST where it looks like there may be a temp break down in the Norfolk, for some reason that water down there seems like billfish water to me, hot and blue! Regardless it’s supposed to blow today and tomorrow so Thursday or Friday sounds like the next day to get out and lay eyes on the rip and see what’s going on! In the mean time we’ll be keeping a close eye on our app and seeing where the app suggest the hot spots are, and also where the commercial boats end up going, then of course keeping an eye on the sat shots and other data as we receive it! Thanks for all the support guys!! It really seems like everyone has been doing good so far this year! Almost all our members are catching fish! If they aren’t it’s cause they haven’t left the dock LOL We are continuing to tweak and work on the app and a way for our members to share their catch and reports with other members and network and share intel etc. that is eventually what the top left square in the app (live interactive map) will be, it will function as a place for members to click and share exactly when and where they caught their fish, water temp, what it bit etc. whether the member chooses to do it live from the water via starlink or waits to get home and then inputs the data later, will be an awesome tool for all of us to share our catches and other valuable intel!
Just a few more shots of the Baltimore bite….
More shots of Baltimore 6.29/6.30
(11am 6.30 Part 2) This is just a few more shots of the chlorophyll in Baltimore and to the north in Spencer and Linde and then Jeff’s Tracks off the Garmin where he got his bites yesterday evening! We try to provide you all with as much info, intel, and data as we can! The app seems to be working well too, no coincidence all the commercial boats now in the Baltimore. We will update you all if we have any other info, unfortunately today was the day to go, next two days aren’t looking great, particularly for small boats, but Thursday and Friday are looking promising! Tight Lines! (Refer to this morning report for more info)
Baltimore Canyon lit up, Bluewater and tunas!
Blue water and tunas in the Baltimore!
(9am 6.30 report Part 1) Jeff ran out yesterday evening with Alex and the girls and went 6 for 6 on yellows in the south east corner of the Baltimore! As you can see from the shots above it all makes perfect sense! Also our app is also showing a lot of long line gear in the Baltimore as well as a nice hot spot there too! There’s also some good water up near the Spencer and Linde that looks like it could be holding fish for the guys to the north in Jersey or DE, even Wilmington could be a good option for big eyes, but we know the yellows are in the Baltimore for now! Tight Lines and Stay Bent! (See Part 2 for more shots of the Baltimore and where Jeff got his bites)
Boys got a big wahoo today! Washington looking amazing!
Boys got a nice wahoo today! Washington looks great!!
Boys went out this am and scored a nice wahoo!! Pretty sure first wahoo out of OC that I’ve seen or heard of! There is some beautiful looking water pushing into the Washington and south poormans, and a nice temp break as well! The Washington is now looking like our number one spot, but poormans still looks promising as well s the Baltimore, depending what you're after! Jeff and crew got their wahoo just inshore of the Washington south of the Rock pile. You can see from the shots above, and the app is also showing the hotspot right there in the Washington! Will update you all again later today or tomorrow am! Tight lines and stay bent!!
Quite a few big eyes caught today…
Quite a few big eyes caught today!
Seems like the big eye’s got fired up in the rougher conditions today! We saw several boats with some nice quality big eye! Including Full Service we reported on this am, Instigator also found a couple big ones, and a boat ou of Fishing Center as well. Most were caught in the Poormans and we heard one boat was in the Baltimore or just south of it. Hopefully it’s not to rough or to crowded out there tomorrow but we all know how Saturdays go, do your best to keep your distance from the boats tightly packed together, they could be on a school of fish, but you always have better chances finding your own group to work by yourself or with one other boat. Tight lines and stay bent!
Slow bite yesterday, but two big eyes caught this am!
Slow bite yesterday, but two big eyes caught this am!
Well we went out yesterday super early for a big eye, it was slick calm and beautiful, but the fishing was slower than we’d hoped for, we went right to the doorman’s as we had fresh intel from our buddy Remo who got 6 yellowfins there Wednesday evening, we actually passed him coming in around 1130pm as we were headed out lol but we ended up going 3 for 3 on yellowfins, all single random bites, no cover ups, quite a few birds around but just a slow bite, maybe the slick calm conditions, lots of boats said it was slow compared to recent fishing. However this morning our buddies on the Full Service ran out and stuck two nice big eyes!! The season is just starting to heat up and based off what we’re seeing it could be a great summer of fishing! If your headed out soon poorman’s is still a great spot to start, some guys are starting to work the Baltimore canyon as well with blue water pushing into it, even a few reports from as far north as the Wilmington. The inshore water is hot now as high as 80-82 degrees in some spots like Winter Quarter, we’ve had multiple people tell us the bluefins are loaded up on the lumps inside the 100 line like the meat department or masseys etc. so quite a few options out there! Tight lines and stay bent!!
Yellowfin continue to chew, big eye bite heating up? Cobia too…
yellowfin continue to chew! Big eye bite heating up? cobia too…
Well we are already hearing of boats out this morning 6/25/25 that are tearing up the yellowfins! Boats are still getting into em around the 461 and south poormans, as well as down around the Washington canyon. We also have been watching a big piece of blue water pushing into the north in the Wilmington and Baltimore canyons, and had a couple reports of yellowfins and big eye caught further north. Jeff poked out on the insanely calm day yesterday with his family for a little while midday yesterday and was able to pick off a single yellowfin as well as a nice mahi, he had his wife parents and kids so they weren’t fishing super hard but nice to come home with some meat! My cousin also took advantage of slick calm conditions and took his son out to winter quarter where they found cobia stacked up! Unfortunately the chlorophyll inshore is still thick which makes visibility about 3’ so is difficult to spot them unless they’re up on top, but nice to know they’re here! They also spotted some big red drum as well! We are planning on heading out tomorrow, or late tonight, we may leave early like 1-2am and try for a big eye at sunrise, not sure yet but thinking we may try starting further north like the Baltimore and then troll/work south towards the Poorman’s but we are gonna see how the sat shots look today, and how are app is showing both commercial fishing vessels as well as our hot spot prediction map, and see if it is pointing us towards a certain area of water! Based off everything we see combined with reports we’re receiving Washington and South Poormans still seems to be the hot spot for yellowfins, 200-400 fathoms, ballyhoo, spreader bars, squid chains, the usual, we did have s few guys running nomads who also caught! We will post another update later this afternoon/evening if we see anything worth mentioning on todays SAT shots! Tight lines and stay bent!!
Little slower today but def still biting…
Poorman’s still looks like the ticket..
All kinds of scattered reports today from Washington to Poormans and even north of poormans, we are keeping an eye on the blue water pushing into the Baltimore as well as the warm water to the south. Also whispers of possibly some yellowfin inside the 100 line both to the north around. tea cup and elephant trunk, and also to the south on the lumps inside Norfolk and Washington but just whispers can’t confirm 100% but I wouldn’t be shocked. Jeff and crew got a late start yesterday but got a nice haul, even landing a couple tuna on poppers and spinning gear! Cobia and red drum are at winter quarter however water visibility is barely 3-5 feet not dirty but lots of chlorophyl in the water. We are thinking about over lighting Wednesday into Thursday for a big eye! We’ll see what happens. Tight lines and stay bent!
4 boats with limits by noon…
4 boats had their limit by noon…
Another day of great reports! Boats are catching from the Northern side of the Washington up to the 461 lump and ten further north into the porrmans, it seems the fish are spread out, but if you can find that break and see where the hard break is on the water you should find those fish! It’s still pretty deep 200-400 fathoms, but it is slowly pushing closer and closer in, you can really tell on the chlorophyll shots the blue water is pushing in closer. We plan on fishing tomorrow and Wednesday so we’ll be out on the water and will report and update you all as we can! There’s a couple of good shots out there right now both SST and chlorophyll, our app is right on the money as well with where its hot spot predictions are! Tight lines and Stay bent!
10 yellows and a nice mahi! Lots of good reports!
Our crew ended the day with 10 yellows and a nice mahi! Saw quite a few mahi caught and had a ton of members on the meat yesterday! We actually got some decent reports from both north and south edges of Washington 200 fathoms to as deep as 600 fathoms, we also had some reports in poormans and even a member who caught some bluefins inside the 100 line up near Baltimore and then found 2 yellows and a mahi Deep South east corner of Baltimore! Our app is also showing the hot spots for activity in the same area! So awesome good luck to anyone fishing today!! Tight lines and stay bent!!
Sounds like a mess out there today lol tuna are still biting though!!
Crowded as expected, but they’re still biting!!
Well as we expected, everyone and their brother took this beautiful Saturday opportunity to head offshore, from boats in VA Beach and Chincoteague all the way to Jersey, they are all making their way to the Washington or that general area, guys further south may try the Norfolk or south of Washington and guys coming from Jersey or DE may try Poormans or just south of it, no matter where ya go there may be a small crowd on a day like today, not to mention the small boat tournament is going on too. We are already hearing some good reports from our members! Member Mike Bones had a slow start to the morning but just got covered up with 4 yellowfin, 3. came tight and they were able to land 2 of them! They were working south east of the Washington! As you can see in the photo above I highlighted a couple hot spots that our app was also showing, at this point like we always say, your best odds are trying to work away from the fleet/crowds and look and troll towards the life!! Tight lines and stay bent!!
Still getting great reports, headed out tomorrow…
Still getting great reports! Headed out tomorrow…
We are still getting lots of good reports from the Poormans to the Washington, and it may be worth looking in the Norfolk! We all know tomorrow being a Saturday is going to be super crowded out there probably in every canyon between bottom fishing, tuna fishing, even guys looking for mahi and marlin every boat will be out tomorrow, but one way to get away from everyone is try something or somewhere different and Norfolk could be that option, it’s a risk but it could pay off huge! Your can see both in the app and from the shots above why areas like the 461 lump in south poormans has been awesome! Washington canyon has been good as well 200-400 fathoms, eating everything! Work their structure and contour, and troll towards the life, the whales the birds. We already got reports today of yellowfin and a mahi in the Washington, and a bluefin closer to poormans in around the 100 line. Gonna be crowded tomorrow pick a piece of water to work and try and avoid the crowds! Tight lines and stay bent!
Another great day of reports from our members!
Another great day of reports from our members!
Sounds like the fishing was on fire again today in the Washington! Restless Lady 2 Capt. Chris got his limit this morning, we also heard from Chase of Chasin Tides who was 11/20 around noon, made his way south closer to where Jeff was yesterday and knocked out the rest of his limit by 2pm! Love hearing and seeing our members catching fish!! Sat shots have still been spotty or not the best, but it is awesome having our new app to predict where the fishing hot spots and high activity areas are! So far it seems to be working perfectly as far as predicting where the fish will be! We are still working hard on getting the mobile version working but in the mean time it is working good on most desktops and laptops! Tight lines and stay bent!
Member James “BlueWater Bites” said “We had a slow pick tunas in south poormans bite turned on in afternoon when we left then ran into acres of bluefins on top water on the way in around the hot dog. Goin back out sat!”
Also don’t forget Wednesday night live stream is tonight! We’ll be going over recent fishing trips as well as what we think is going on out there with the water! We may start a little earlier tonight like 7pm as we are gonna try and go live from Sunset Marina! We will try and stay on for at least an hour or two especially if you all are in the live chat with us asking questions or participating in the conversation etc! See ya live!
The boys got a limit by lunch! Good reports from other members too!
The boys got a limit by lunch! Good reports from other members too!
Well the Washington canyon was loaded just like we thought! Jeff, Alex and crew got their limit of yellowfins this morning by 12:30pm! Sounds like they were biting just about everything in the spread! We also got reports from our member Capt. Chase Eberle of Chasin Tide’s, they went 4 for 6 on yellowfins at the 461 lump (37° 30.060’ 73° 12.000’) in south poormans! So it sounds like they are still spread out between south of the Washington Canyon to as far north as the 461 Lump just south of Poormans, but they are in higher concentrations in some areas for sure. We like that section of water that is pretty much inside the canyon or 200-400 fathoms even as deep as 5-600 on some passes, 68-70 degrees, nice pretty blueish blend, the fish are there! We also had a report from another member James who ran down from Ocean City NJ to the Poormans and he actually got covered up with some 60” class bluefin! They killed 2 and pulled the others off, then also managed to go 1 for 3 on yellowfin as well, was a morning flurry of action but the rest of their day was slow until they switched over to tile fishing! Let’s just hope the tuna stick around through June and July and continue to push in closer and thicker! After last summer this is starting to feel like a fever dream, but it’s only June 17th we won’t get to carried away yet, just take advantage why they are definitely here and chewing! Friday is up in the air weather wise, but sure it will be crowded by the weekend, if you can get out tomorrow early and deal with a little south wind on the way home, that’s your best bet! I also have a theory that once the fleet and weekend warriors all get word of the bite and get out and put some real pressure on these fish, they may start to move around a bit, and I’m afraid if there isn’t any good water for them or bait stacked up for them to follow, they may cruise up north or back out to the Gulf Stream, but let’s hope not. A decent sat shot would be great right about now, but the fog and cloud cover has made it tough, luckily our app is still able to predict areas of high fish activity based off the last 10 days of data and commercial fishing activity, we looked and it said the Washington would be a hot spot or high activity area, and it sure was! Tight Lines and Stay Bent!!
PS Hope you all are enjoying the app! It seems to be showing the hot spots perfectly from what we can see, and the commercial boats are working the same areas too! Awesome to see it all working how it’s supposed to for the most part! We are still working on having it run smoother on mobile platforms as well! Thanks for all the feedback and if you have any other questions email us alwaysbentfishing@gmail.com or jeff@alwaysbent.com you can always DM on social media if that’s easier too!
